Eric Dawda, a private legal practitioner has invoked the supervisory jurisdiction of the High Court through a mandamus application seeking orders from the Court directed at Goldbod, a body solely mandated by law to purchase gold from small scale miners, to respond to his request for information on gold purchases and others since its creation in 2025.

In his application filed on Monday, the 5th day of January, 2026, Mr. Dawda deposes to his affidavit accompanying his mandamus application that he filed a right to information request at Goldbod with same being unresponded to.

Pursuant to the Right to Information Act, he petitioned the Right to Information Commission for redress but same has been unattended to by the commission. He thus seeks orders from the Court directed at Goldbod for answers to purchases of gold from miners, sale of gold acquired, internal controls among others of the Respondent-Gold buying institution.

Per the motion paper of the Applicant-Lawyer, the Court should grant him his writ of mandamus and consequential orders as follows:

"1. An order of Mandamus directed at the Respondent to furnish the Applicant with the following information:

.a Alist of all small-scale miners or licensed small-scale mining companies that have sold gold to the Respondent since its inception, particularly the name of the miner or company, license number, date(s) of transaction(s), Volume of gold sold and location (region/district) of the miner

b. Policy and operational documents governing the sale and purchase of gold by Respondent

c. Particulars of Gold exported by the Respondent since its inception

d. Control mechanisms regarding finance and Administration of the Respondent

e. Inflows and outflows of the Respondent since its inception

.f Procurement plan of the Respondent.

g. Any internal or public policy documents, guidelines, operational procedures, memoranda, licensing frameworks, or official directives that outline how Respondent buys gold from miners, assays, values, and exports it."
