The President of the Ghana Bar Association, the learned Mrs. Afua Ghartey has expressed concerns for the absence of enough spaces for pupillage for new lawyers enrolled on Friday, the 9th day of October, 2026.
The President of the Bar voiced the concern at the 2026 edition of the Annual Bar Conference at Ada during the session of matters affecting the Nation and the Bar. According to the 1st Female Bar President of Ghana, there are still lawyers who were called last year who are yet to have a space to undergo their mandatory 6months pupillage under a Senior at the Bar suggesting an over saturation of the profession by mass production of lawyers inconsistent with opportunities in the market.
She expressed the concern after informing the conference gathering of the enrolment of more than 1,400 lawyers on the 9th day of October, 2026. As part of her concerns, she indicated the need for a revisit of the Legal Education Act.
Huge enrolment
On Friday, the 9th day of October, 2026, exactly 1,568 lawyers were enrolled unto the roll of lawyers in Ghana. The number represents the highest number of lawyers enrolled in Ghana since the birth of the Legal Profession in Ghana.
