True to their announced strike dated 12th July, 2024 members and staff of the Judicial Service across the Country have failed to turn up for work leading to the failure of many courts to sit. The reasons for the strike by JUSAG (Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana) is the decision by Trade Union Congress to register their disapproval of the sale of shares of SSNIT in some four hotels. The reasons for the strike are contained fully in the release of JUSAG which can be read below;
Law Court Complex and Courts at Supreme Court Premises
The Law Court Complex main gates are closed by security personel of the Complex preventing entry to the premises of the busy Court house for the conduct of business. The Circuit and High Courts also at the premises of the Supreme Court were shut with no signs of sitting today.
Adenta Court Complex and others
Courts in the Adenta Court Complex also did not sit. The Ngleshie Amanfro District Court located near Kasoa Galilea market like others did not sit. Reports from lawyers practicing in Bono, Bono East, Western North and Ahafo Regions to The Law Platform also suggest Courts in Sunyani and Techiman and other towns of the Region failed to sit leaving lawyers and their clients stranded.
New dates
Some courts despite the shut down of Courts today owing to the strike by the staff of the Judicial Service had Court clerks and Registrars issuing new dates to litigants and parties who showed up for business for the day. A court with such a situation per our reports from Lawyers across the Country is the Agona Swedro District Court where the Registrar was seen issuing new Court dates to litigating parties and lawyers.
Following the termination of the sale of the shares of SSNIT in the said hotels, it is anticipated that the strike may be called off by JUSAG by the end of today.
