The respected Senior Partner and Group Executive Chairman of K Archy & Company, Mr. Kwame Acheampong Boateng has advised lawyers who wish to start a law firm to garner at least 5 years of experience in active practice before taking the step.

The over three decades-experienced lawyer and repected member of the Bar gave the advice at the innovative Law Firm Workshop organised by Qarah Institute held in Accra on Saturday, the 23rd day of August, 2025. Mr. Boateng whose law firm has branches in Kumasi, Accra and Kyebi offered this advice in response to a question at the Workshop where a partcipant sought to have guidance on the time a lawyer can set up a law firm.

One-man Law Firms

Mr. Boateng who attended the Workshop patronised by about 70 lawyers bemoaned the increasing phenomenom of what her terms as one-man law firms. He indicated that a lawyer who wishes to set up a law firm should set up well despite the lawyer starting small. He added that a Lawyer ought to have a level of maturity to be able to set up and run a law firm.

He expressed displeasure of the apparent stoppage to the practie of routine inspection of law firms by the Greater Accra Bar. As part of his insightful guidance to participants of Workshop, he bemoaned the failure of the training process of students at the Law School to include the business of running a law firm.

Business with the law

The learned Lawyer who runs other successful businesses in the tourism and the hospitality industry and also served as a Chair of the Ghana Tourism Development Company told participants to know how to do business in the law. He said every client opens an opportunity that a lawyer can exploit. "For every client, there is a business opportunity. Find it." He added.

Mr. Boateng, who has a Regal life away from his law practice and chain of businesses zoomed his delivery to the internal structures of firms. He indicated that every firm has a vision, values and strategy and thus, all members of a firm ought to know how they fit into the strategy of the firm. He advised law firm managers and lawyers gathered at the workshop to know what everyone in their team is looking for and bringing in in terms of revenue for the firm.
