This October, Qarah Institute hosts the maiden edition of the International Lawyering Dialogues, a webinar series exploring the practice, profession and future of lawyering within international organisations and across the international legal landscape.

The Dialogues seek to enhance the body of knowledge on international legal practise with lived experiences and perspectives drawn from African lawyers/legal practitioners (active and retired) who practise or have practised extensively on the international legal landscape.

The maiden edition of the Dialogues will feature two of Africa’s finest international lawyers:

Edward Chukwuemeke Okeke: Mr. Okeke is an Adjunct Professor at the John Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Edward Okeke previously served extensively with the United Nations, UNESCO and World Bank Group, in senior legal advisory roles spanning 1992 to 2025. Mr. Okeke also authored “Law and Lawyering in International Organisations” published in Unity in Diversity: Perspectives on the Law of International Organizations (Brill, 2025) – a publication that serves as the intellectual point of departure for the Dialogues.

Prof. Edward Kwakwa: Prof. Kwaka is Assistant Director General at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in charge of the Global Challenges and Partnerships Sector. Prof. Kwakwa brings his long and distinguished service with WIPO to an end this year, having joined WIPO in 1996 and rising through the ranks to become the first and only Ghanaian to hold the high office of Assistant Director General. He previously served in various senior legal advisory roles at the World Trade Organization, UNHCR and the Commission on Global Governance.

The first session of the Dialogues will feature Edward Chukwuemeke Okeke on 14th October 2026 at 1:30pm (GMT). The second session of the Dialogues will feature Prof. Edward Kwakwa on 27th October 2026 at 10:00am (GMT).
