The Law Platform can confirm that Mrs. Cecilia Abena Dapaah has taken custody of the sum of $590,000 and GHc2,730,000 seized from her home by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). We can also authoritatively confirm the de-freezing of the bank accounts of Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah.
This follows the ruling of the High Court, Economic and Financial Division Presided by Justice Nana Brew, a relieving judge to Justice Edward Twum who had earlier in September 2023 ordered the return of the assets of Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah. His Lordship Nana Brew on 25th of January, 2024 ordered the return of the assets in the custody of the OSP to Mrs. Cecilia Dapaah within 72 hours.
24 hours after the order of the Court, Lawyers of Mrs. Dapaah were at the offices of the OSP for collection of the monies in the custody OSP which the court had ordered a release back to Mrs. Dapaah. This time around, the OSP did not release and re-seize the monies of Mrs. Dpaah as it previously did after an order from Justice Twum in September last year for the release of the money seized from the home of Mrs. Dapaah back to her.
The Law Platform can again confirm a letter issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor to Prudential Bank and Societe General for the de-freezing of the accounts standing in the name of Mrs Dapaah. We can also confirm the issuance of a cheque to one of the banks by Mrs. Dapaah which has been duly honored by the bank.
Clearance of Corruption and Transfer to EOCO
The OSP in Press Conference and notice dated 25th January, 2024 has apparently cleared Mrs. Dapaah of corruption. Per the notice from the Special Prosecutor, seized and frozen properties of Mrs. Dapaah cannot be traced to corruption. The OSP has thus tranfered the case of Mrs. Dapaah to the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO) to investigate Mrs. Dapaah for the offence of money laundering and related activities connected to same.
