The Criminal Court division of the High Court Presided by Justice Francis Achibonga, JA for Criminal Court 3 and Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, J. for Criminal Court 4 shall sit during the legal vacation to conduct case management and trials in cases brought by the Republic against politically exposed persons affiliated with the erstwhile New Patriotic Party regime.

The Courts shall be sitting during the legal vacation following a warrant from the Chief Justice, H/L Justice Paul Baffoe Bonnie to Justices Achibonga and Kocuvie-Tay. The news of the warrant was made in open Court during the proceedings in Republic v Hanan Abdul Wahab & Anor. (Suit No. CR/0530/2026) in Criminal Court 3 and that of Republic v Gifty Oware-Mensah & Ors. (Suit No. CR/0448/25) in Criminal Court 4.

Republic v Hanan

After the Court dismissed a motion for stay of proceedings filed by Messrs Dame & Partners on behalf of Mr. Hanan, the Court informed the Bar of a warrant to him by the Chief Justice to sit during vacation and therefore an adjournment of proceedings in the matter to the 12th and the 13th of August for the commencement of trial.

Lawyers for the accused persons rejected sittings during legal vacation as they indicated scheduled travel outside the jurisdiction and the need for rest for lawyers which is customary of legal vacation. Justice Achibonga despite the remonstrance from lawyers at the Bar adjourned proceedings to the 13th and 14th of August, 2026 for commencement of trial.

Republic v Gifty Oware-Mensah

Lawyers for the defence in Republic v Gifty Oware-Mensah (Suit No. CR/0018/26) were averse to the adjournment by the Court to a date in August. Upon concurrence from both parties, the Court adjourned to the 27th day of October, 2026, affording lawyers some rest during the legal vacation which commences on the 1st day of August, 2026.

In the case of Republic v Solomon Asamoah & Anor. (Suit No. CR/0448/25), the Court adjourned proceedings to 24th August, 2026 for Case Management Conference for the case of the accused. The Court adjourned to the said date after refusing a stay application filed by the accused persons.
