The Judicial Secretary, the learned Ahmed Musah has issued a circular dated today, the 12th day of October, 2026 to all registrars and court clerks setting down four protocols to be observed by all Court Registrars and Clerks to abate the culture of Lawyers and litigants not readily obtaining information of a Court's inability to sit and Court adjournments when a Court fails to sit.
The four protocols which Court Registrars and Clerks are to strictly observe are:
"1. PROACTIVE COMMUNICATION
As soon a s it becomes apparent that a court will be unable t o sit, the Registrar or assigned Court Clerk must take immediate steps to notify all counsel/ litigants involved in the affected matters.
2 . APPROVED CHANNELS
Notification must be transmitted via the most efficient digital means available, specifically WhatsApp. SMS, or email.
3. ACCURACY OF RECORDS
It is the responsibility of the Registry to maintain updated and accurate contact details for all counsel appearing before the court to facilitate this communication:
4. ACOUNTABILITY
Registrars are reminded that they bear the responsibility for ensuring this notification protocol is observed. Failure to provide timely notice, where it is reasonably possible to d o so, will be viewed as a serious dereliction of duty."
