The Dansoman Circuit Court Presided by the learned Halimah El-Alawa Abdul Bassit has varied the bail conditions of Mr. Hopeson Adorye after prosecution elected not to oppose the prayer of Mr. Adorye for the varying of the conditions of his bail of weekly visits or report to the police to that of monthly visits.
Mr. Adorye, a leading figure behind the movement for change is facing prosecution at the Dansoman Circuit Court after he was arrested for claiming to have been part of an orchestration which detonated bombs in the Volta Region during the 2016 elections. The Dansoman Circuit court granted Mr. Adorye bail on the 23rd day of May, 2024 at the sum of 20,000 cedis with two sureties and a weekly report to the police.
During proceedings today, the 9th day of October, 2024 at the Dansoman Circuit Court, Mr. Adorye who had representation from Jesse Adongo Esq., who held the brief of his senior, Kweku Atakora Dwomoh Esq. personally informed the Court from the dock that he needed his bail conditions varied given the political season. The Court noted his prayer and stood the case down for counsel to confer with Mr. Adorye on his prayer which was not made by Counsel in his address to the court upon the hearing of the matter.
Upon the recall of the case, Mr. Adongo prayed for the varying of the conditions from a weekly report to the police to monthly reports as the accused has consistently appeared during all hearings of the matter. Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder was not opposed to the request though same was deemed to be puzzling for prosecution as per Inspector Wonder, reports indicates that Mr. Adorye has failed to comply with the condition of weekly reports to the police. Upon being quizzed by Her Honour Abdul Bassit, Mr. Adorye refuted the claims of Inspector Wonder by claiming that he always visits the police station as per the conditions of his bail.
Given the absence of an opposition to the varying of the bail conditions, Her Honour granted the prayer for a variation and warned Mr. Adorye not to breach the condition of monthly visits to the police.
Advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions
Prosecution, according to Inspector Wonder is yet to receive advice form the office of the Director of Public Prosecution and thus, disclosure cannot be made to the politician-acused person. Court adjourned the matter to the 28th of November for case management conference.
