Professional legal training cut to 1 year; no 'Makola' - Changes to be introduced by the Legal Education Reform bill

The drastic changes to legal education are contained in the speech of the Attorney-General delivered on the first day of the week-long Ghana Bar Association Conference which commenced today, 15th September, 2025.

The changes include a removal of the sole power of the Ghana School of Law to train Lawyers in Professional legal education, sharing that power with the Law Faculties. The duration for legal education shall be 1 year. There shall be a National Bar Examination Council. The changes to legal education by the Bill can be listened to below:
