The Trustees of the Methodist Church of Ghana has filed a motion at the Registry of the Supreme Court for orders of the Supreme Court to join the pending case before the Court on the right of Muslim students of Wesley Girls High School in manifesting their religious faith on campus.
In the motion of the Church brought on their behalf by the learned George Ankoma Mensah, the Methodist Church suggest to the Court that the Board of the School is not a juristic personality and thus, the need for the Trustees of the Church which has legal capacity and owns the school, be suited to the matter.
Per the motion for joinder of the Church, a copy of which may be read below, the MoU between faith based organisations and the Government is supplied to buttress the point that the Trustees are the actual persons who are the owners of Wesley Girls and therefore, the need for their presence for the Court to completely and effectively determine all matters raised by the writ of Mr. Shafic Osman.
The Church in their motion as filed on the 8th day of May, 2026 suggest to the Court some of the arguments canvassed by the Catholic Church in their now struck out amicus brief that the Methodist Church who are owners and controlling minds of the school have the constitutional right to manifest their religious beliefs, propagate same and establish institutions such as Wesley Girls for the manifestation of such beliefs.
The motion of the Trustees of the Methodist Church of Ghana follows the dismissal of the motion of the Board of Governors of Wesley Girls for the Supreme Court to dismiss the case of the Plaintiff-Legal academic.
