Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako through his lawyers, Zoe, Akea & Co has filed a notice of appeal against the decision of the High Court delivered on the 20th day of July, 2026 convicting him and sentencing him to 20 years in prison with hard labour for mining offences.
The notice of appeal canvasses and particularises constitutional issues raised and ignored by the Court, circumstantial evidence relied on by the Court and an improper application of the legal principle of veil piercing among others in convicting Wontumi and his company, Akonta Mining.
The notice of appeal as filed on the 28th day of July, 2026 seeks the acquittal of the Appellants and a reversal of, and the setting aside of the decision of the High Court in THE REPUBLIC v. BERNARD ANTWI BOASIAKO & ORS [TLP-HC-2026-20].
Following the filing of the notice of appeal, The Law Platform anticipates the filing of a motion for bail pending the appeal per sources in the legal team of Mr. Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi.
