Assignment Ongoing
Prior to appointment of the much needed District Court Magistrates, news of the allocation of the soon-to-be Magistrates have been made known to lawyers during the plenary session of the 2026 Bar Conference.
According to Mrs. Afua Ghartey, President of the Bar, upon the entry into a new legal year, all processes pursuant to the appointment of District Court Magistrates shall be at an end, and the 130 marked applicants shall be sworn in and distributed to District Courts across the length and breadth of the Country.
Only 1 District Magistrate in Upper East
The news of the appointment of District Court Magistrates in the new legal year was necessitated after the Secretary of the Upper East Bar, the learned Issahaku Dokurugu Tahidu in delivering the report of the Upper East Bar highlighted the deprivation of the Region's 9 District Magistrate Courts with substantive Magistrates.
To reaction from the Bar President, he Mr. Tahidu mentioned the sordid situation of just one District Court Magistrate serving all the 9 District Courts in the Region.
His lamentation drew the Bar President to announce some respite for Justice delivery at the District level by the appointment of some 130 District Court Magistrates.
Across the Board shortage
The situation in the Upper East Region though in a worst state, may not be peculiar to the Region.
