Customary of the team at The Law Platform, we celebrate a legal mind every first day of each month. On this fateful day which ushers us into a new month, we remember and celebrate the respected and illustrious Anthony Akoto Ampaw Esq., a gem of a lawyer.
Mr. Ampaw, affectionately called Sheey Sheey stood tall in human rights advocacy in Ghana. He was a free thinker and believer in the constitutional right of access to information. He clamoured for its passage and advised his own Partner and former colleague in Chambers and now President of the Republic against a partisan setup of the legally required Right to Information Commission.

Mr. Ampaw was a reliable litigator. A poised advocate in court who knew what, when and how to achieve the ends of his clients. His life was in the law. This life he lived for over three decades right from 1993 when he was called to the Bar. His path crossed that of Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic who has groomed many giants in the law. Their friendship was carved in and outside the law. Many were their exploits together.

Mr. Ampaw is a product of St. Augustine's college. Our star, though famed as a member of the respected Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co law firm, the election petition fought by the established parties in Ghana at both ends garnered more popularity for him. Deemed as a modest man, patriotic at heart with zero tolerance for corruption, many were those who tipped him for the arduous task as Ghana's first Special Prosecutor. In diligence, Mr.Ampaw served as the Chair of the Law Reform Commission and rendered advisory services to the Attorney General on the Maritime Boundary Dispute between Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire. Mr. Ampaw has run his course, and his country is richer for it.
The Law Platform celebrates Mr. Ampaw and join his dear family, members of Akufo-Addo, Prempeh and Co, and lawyers of different years at the Bar to mourn and remember a giant in the law: Mr Anthony Akoto Ampaw.
