History
Upon the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ Bill, the President signaled to Parliament to cease and desist the transmission of the Bill to the Presidency. The said notice from the Presidency can be read here.
The notice from the Presidency was hinged on the advise of the Attorney-General to the Presidency relating to the bill. Read the said advice to the President by the A-G here. The Speaker dared the Presidency signalling its decision not to abide by the said cease and desist order. The position of the speaker can be read here.
The Supreme Court was thus the forum for the settling of the issues surrounding the transmission of the bill to the President and assent of same by the President through the Richard Sky v Attorney-General case which the Supreme Court in unanimity has dismissed today, 18th December, 2024.
