Mugabe-Animal Farm
In his terse ruling, His Honour, Samuel Acquah demonstrated his disposition of remand to offences where an accused is said to have insulted the President. His Honour decried the culture of insults in our body politics and signaled the intention of the Court to nip same in the bud.
His Honour per his ruling at page 9 relied on the famous quote of the former President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe, suggesting the denial of freedom of an accused for insulting speech against the President and High Ranking public officials, though there is a guarantee of freedon to make such insulting speech. His Honour applied ‘Orwellian’ princiiples in the famous book titled "Animal Farm" to suggest to the accused that all persons are not equal and thus, an insult to the Inspector General of Police which the accused, per facts of his charge sheet is said to have done is grievous than that to an odinary citizen
