Private legal practitioner and the learned lead Editor of The Law Platform, Jonathan O. Asare has declared his intention of vying for the position Vice President of the Young Lawyers' Forum of the Ghana Bar Association.

The Young Lawyers' Forum is a forum established by powers granted the Executive Council of the Ghana Bar Association under Article 16 of the 2021 Ghana Bar Association (G.B.A) Constitution. Per Article 42 of the G.B.A Constitution, "Young Lawyers’ Forum” means the Forum established for members of the Association with a maximum of seven years standing at the Bar."

In a brief interview with The Law Platform, Mr. Jonathan O. Asare Esq., a product of GIMPA Law School, the Ghana School of Law and the University of Ghana School of Law where he obtained his LL.M in Financial Markets Law and Regulation, says his vision for the Forum is to act in concert with the Executive Committee of the Forum to, as far as practicable, push for the elimination of all barriers against Young Lawyers in their full participation in all activities of the Ghana Bar Association, especially, the annual conference of the Bar and voting for the leadership of the Ghana Bar Association.

Mr. Asare who has ties to various tiers of the Bar and the Bench seeks to promote mentorship and guidance for young lawyers if elected as the Vice President of the Young Lawyers' Forum. As enjoined by Article 18 of the GBA Constitution, Jonathan O. Asare Esq. who leads the research team of The Law Platform in his interaction with The Law Platform on 1st of October, 2024 said "despite being a small team, I proudly led The Law Platform team in researching the success and failure rates of Criminal Appeals from the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court between 2010 - 2024. I have also led the production of yearly papers on new constitutional law cases delivered by the Supreme Court. I believe I do have what it takes and the experience however limited to contribute to the promotion and support of law reform and the pursuit of legal research enshrined in the GBA Constitution and other objectives as set out in Article 2 of the 2021 Ghana Bar Association Constitution.

Election dates

Regional Bar Elections and elections for the Executive Committee of Fora (Women's Forum and In-House Lawyers' Forum) of the Ghana Bar Association shall be held per the constitution of the GBA, on the Annual General Meeting of the Regional Bar and Fora which per sources of The Law Platform, shall be later part of October.

Per sources of The Law Platform, the elections for the Executive Committee of the Young Lawyers' Forum however shall be communicated by the Electoral Committee of the Ghana Bar Association given the circumstances of a non-existing executive committee of the Forum.
