Must Everyone Become a Lawyer? Ghana's Growing Obsession with the Legal Profession
Imagine if people decided to study medicine, not because they were interested in medical science or caring for patients, but because they believed the title of medical doctor would make them better journalists or politicians. Eventually, some would find themselves in consulting rooms or operating theatres, and the consequences of inadequate professional preparation could be devastating. The legal profession also carries serious responsibilities. Lawyers advise businesses, protect rights, structure transactions, represent clients in court and influence decisions that affect livelihoods and investments. Legal education cannot be treated merely as a route to social prestige.
