The Nigeria Bar Association in its progressive approach to the constantly evolving nature of the practice of the law and mindful of a the tech driven world has issued a 13-point guideline to enable legal practitioners offer robust data protection regimes for clients.

The 16-paged document under the hand of the Nigeria Bar Association President, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau OON, SAN, outlines the "Cybersecurity Guidelines for the Nigeria Bar Association, emphasising the vital importance of cybersecurity in the legal profession. The guideline recognises the unique vulnerabilities legal practitioners face in the digital age. It also seeks to establish robust measures for protecting sensitive client information from the myriad of cyber threats encountered in today’s digital age."

In laying out the importance of the guideline which is applicable to all practicing members of the association, the guideline underscores the critical need for proactive and comprehensive measures to safeguard sensitive client information. According to the guideline, "Adhering to these guidelines enables legal practitioners in Nigeria to enhance their cybersecurity stance, uphold their ethical and professional responsibilities, and maintain their clients’ trust in an increasingly interconnected and digitalised world.".
