H.E John Dramani Mahama by a petition filed and received by the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has been made the subject, yet again, of investigations together with his Brother, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama for breaches to conflict of interest provisions under the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
Per the 6-page petition, a copy of which may be read/downloaded below, the use of the Private Jet of the President belonging to his brother has yet again come forth for investigation by CHRAJ. The sourcing of some USD100 million by the company of the President's Brother from the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) whose Chairman of the Board of Governors is an appointee of the President, Hon. Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is also subject of the petition received at CHRAJ today.
The Petitioner, one Dennis Frimpong, seeks the Ombusdman to investigate per page 5 of the petition as follows:
"(i) the nature, frequency, and extent of any private benefits, including access to private aircraft, provided by Ibrahim Mahama to President John Dramani Mahama;
(ii) whether such benefits were declared in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, codes of conduct, or constitutional requirements;
(I) whether any actual or apparent conflict of interest arose in relation to decisions, approvals, facilitation, support, financing arrangements, or governmental actions connected to the Azumah Resources transaction; and
(iv) whether the President, any public official, or any state institution took steps to avoid, disclose, manage, or eliminate any conflict or appearance of conflict arising from these circumstances.
v. Investigate whether any gifts, benefits, privileges, or advantages, including access to private aircraft provided by Ibrahim Mahama to President John Dramani Mahama, created an actual or apparent conflict of interest in relation to the management, allocation, approval, financing, transfer, acquisition, or control of mining assets vested in the President under Article 257(6) of the Constitution."

Earlier Petition - Damang mine take over
By a letter dated the 25th day of May, 2026, CHRAJ, upon receipt of a petition filed against the President and his Brother have signaled its intention to act by way of investigations into the conduct of the President and his Brother over the Damang mine takeover or dismiss the petition as filed by Mr. Emmanuel Amekplenu on the 20th day of May, 2026.
