In a human rights action filed at the Human Rights Division of the High Court, Toh You Kang, a Singaporean National who languishes in the custody of the police for nearly a month at the behest of Mr. Ashie-Moore seeks GH¢20 million for the invasion of his privacy and breaches to his rights and to also recover $800,000 from Mr. Emmanuel Nii Ashie-Moore who he accuses with proof, of requesting $800,000 to secure him Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) contracts worth millions of dollars for the supply of electric cables.
In a 66-paragraphed affidavit attached to the motion paper of the Applicant, a copy of which is below, Toh You Kang, with a desire to enter the Ghanaian market with his business, got into contact with Mr. Ashie-Moore through his Chinese business partner, Mrs. Liang Liu Bing with whom he had undertaken business dealings.
Per his application brought under Article 33 of the 1992 Constitution and Order 67 of the High Court Civil Procedure Rules, C.I 47, Mr. Ashie-Moore succeeded in convincing him to part with the cumulative amount of $800,000 as a percentage of an ECG contract he had secured although in opposition. Per the photographic evidence attached to the Application of Mr. Toh You Kang, an associate of Mr. Ashie-Moore named as Henry per the motion paper was dispatched to Singapore to recieved a huge percentage of the bulk $800,000 in Singapore all in a bid to establish a Company called NSG Innovation Limited with both parties holding shares through which contracts won from ECG through the influence peddling and connections of Mr. Ashie-Moore shall executed.
Gone unresponsive
Per the interesting depositions made in the affidavit accompanying Mr. Kang's motion paper brought on his behalf by the learned Cephas Boyuo of Boyuo @ Law, Mr. Ashie-Moore after receiving the said amount went unresponsive on the said NSG Innovation Limited and failed to provide any progress of the purported secured contracts with ECG for which he expended the amounts of money.
According to the motion paper with suit number HR/0131/2025, Mr. Ashie-Moore only spoke to him after he reached out after 2-months periodof no communication but now introducing investment opportunities in the Oil and gas sector.
Campaign financing
Still in his motion paper, the Applicant-Singaporean businessman deposed to the fact that Mr. Ashie-Moore encourgad him to invest $1.5 million into the NDC campaign which he did and also received sums of monies from him using the name of the President, John Dramani Mahama. In whatsapp correspondences attached to the motion paper, Mr. Kang offers instances to the Court where the Respondent, Mr. Ashie-Moore suggested the President wished to have phone conversations with him in furtherance of the business intentions of the Parties to the instant suit.
Trip to Ghana
Mr. Kang adds to his narration in his motion paper and supporting affiavit with exhibits all numbering 66 pages that he was invitied in the course of his interactions with Mr. Ashie-Moore to come to Ghana for a 3 day visit between 28th - 30th May, 2025. He obliged the request.
Upon his arrival, according to the motion paper filed in Court, Mr. Ashie-Moore deprived him of his liberty through the use of armed men and demanded $3 million in his possession from one Mrs. Liang Liu Bing, the very business associate who recommended Mr. Ashie-Moore as a person who could assist him to foray his electric cable business into Ghana.
Seizures, police custody
The Applicant submits to the Honourble Human Rights Court that the Respondent, Mr. Ashie-Moore seized his phones and money and secured his arrest and police custody after his bail was denied by the Dansoman Circuit Court.
Mr. Kang shows, per his motion paper that Mr. Ashie-Moore reached out to his brother seeking payment of the said $3 million which shall cause him to ensure the liberty of the Applicant. Per depositions and exhibits attached to the motion paper, pictures of his presence at the Accra Regional Command of the police were sent to his brother providing proof of the condition of the Applicant and seriousness of the Respondent herein.
In the face of what the Applicant deposes to as extortion by Mr. Ashie-Moore from him, he sought legal Counsel through the Singaporean Embassy whereupon the insatnt motion has been filed in the Human Rights Court.
