The relentless Mrs. Efua Ghartey has been elected as the 28th President of the Ghana Bar Association. Mrs. Ghartey polled 1,270 votes out of the 2597 potential voters. Her figure of 1,270 represents 54.24%. Her contender, the affable Agbesi Dzakpasu polled 1,060 votes representing 44.95% of the votes as declared by the Elections Committee of the Ghana Bar Association.
The victory of Mrs. Ghartey makes her a pacesetter and a breaker of the glass ceiling for female lawyers in the leadership of one of Ghana's most noble associations, the Ghana Bar Association.
Barth is elected Vice
Mrs. Barth was predictably elected as the Vice-President and now shall be the second female Vice President of the Ghana Bar Association. She polled 68. 87% of the votes with her contender, the former Western Region Bar President, Ebenezer Kwaitoo polling 20.99%. All other positions were not opened to voting as candidates run unopposed. The Executive Council of the Ghana Bar Association now takes the shape as below:
Celebrations and Victory Speech
Lawyers in the camp of Mrs. Ghartey, her doting husband, the learned Joe Ghartey could not control their excitement as the results of the victory of Mrs Ghartey was announced.
Dzakpasu, a gracious contender
Mr. Dzakpasu as honourable as he is, embraced the results by his embrace of his contender and heartily congratulated Mrs Ghartey. Below are his word of concession.
Victory Speech
The learned President-Elect was full of emotions. She was overwhelmed by the show of love and the fact of finally tasting victory after two earlier attempts. She called for a united bar and called for support for the implementation of her policies as outlined in her manifesto.
