The respected and learned Thaddeus Sory has undertaken a detailed and diligent examination of the legal basis for the deluge of Practice Directions and Guidelines unveiled by the learned Chief Justice on the 8th day of April, 2024.
Per the respected law teacher and head of Sory@Law Chambers, the directions and guidelines are unconstitutional, unnecessary and will not achieve its intended objective of contributing to ensure tidier and speedier dispute resolution.
In his well argued 30-paged article, the learned Sory contends that, "the Practice Directions issued by Chief Justices especially the recent Administrative Guidelines and Practice Directions issued by Her Ladyship Sackey Torkornoo CJ:
i. have no legal basis.
ii. have not demonstrated that the existing rules properly and efficiently applied will not yield effective justice delivery, which is the reason why they were made, and
iii. provide no explanation as to how their introduction [the Practice Directions] will achieve what the existing rules of court have not and/or cannot achieve."

2024 Practice Directions and Guidelines
Mr. Sory recounts practice directions from the Sophia Akuffo era to the present Torkornoo era and firmly asserts that the practice directions under the Akuffo and Torkornoo eras are "unconstitutional, subversive of the mechanics of adjudication and/or its process, and completely unnecessary."
Intriguingly, Mr. Sory asserts that the Justice delivery was more speedier under the old rules of civil procedure than now where the courts have a number of practice directions to guide them and superior courts no longer record in long hand.
