The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama shall swear in 34 Circuit Court Judges and 7 lawyers unto the High Court Bench as Superior Court Justices on Thursday, the 9th day of October, 2025.

The list of the soon to be Justices of the High Court is produced by the Judicial Council after the vetting of candidates on the lower Bench and the Bar who are at least 10 years at the Bar and satisfy constitutional requirements for appointment to the High Court Bench.

Some known names

Seventh on the list of Judges to be sworn in is H/H Samuel Bright Acquah, formerly of the Circuit Court 9, Accra. His Honour is famous for his widely criticized decision in a bail application in Republic v Kwame Baffie @Abronye Suit No. GR/AC/CC/D18/65/2026. His Honour is retired from service as a Judge as reported by The Law Platform on 15th September, 2025. He however had applied and had been vetted and per sources of The Law Platform, passed his vetting for swearing in as a Judge before his retirement.

The 41-man list also includes the learned Acting Judicial Secretary, Dr. Cyracus Badinye Bapuuroh who took over the administration of the office of the Judicial Secretary after the resignation of the Court of Appeeal Judge, Her Ladyship Cyra Pamela Koranteng J.A.

STAR OF THE MONTH - Professor Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson ESQ.

Her Honour admirably presiding over the busy Dansoman Circuit Court, known for her punctual sittings, Her Honour Halimah El-Alawah Abdul-Baasit shall see her elevation to the High Court Bench next week.

The vibrant and academic-award winning Sedinam Awo Kwadam, respected by her Court users at Adenta and Accra Circuit Courts shall be promoted next week Thursday. The bright and firm Koforidua Circuit Court Judge now transferred to Accra Circuit Court with training at Harvard University and lecturing experience, H/H Bertha Aniagyei shall join 34 of her brethren on the Circuit Court Bench to be promoted to the Superior Court nextweek.
