The Ghana Bar Association, the respected and most populous Bar Association in Ghana showed its force of representation through the stature and experience of Counsel representing it in proceedings in the case of Israel Tetteh, Dafeamekpor & Ghana Law Society vrs The Attorney-General & Ghana Bar Association Suit No. J1/30/2025.
The Association is represented by senior revered lawyers with joint litigation experience of nearly 100 years. Messrs Ace Anan Ankomah, Kizito Beyuo and the learned Justin Amenuvor represented the Association in proceedings on the 29th day of April, 2026 as members of the legal team lined up by the Association to resist the prayers of the newly formed Ghana Law Society who primarily seek an interpretation from the Supreme Court to undo the privileged recognition of the Ghana Bar Association by the 1992 constitution. The trio come up against the learned Dr. Jennifred Maurice Adjei, a lecturer of law at the University of Cape Coast representing the Ghana Law Society.
A-G argues in support of GBA
Business on the 29th day of April, 2026 was for the hearing of the arguments in the case as filed by both parties. The Court by its President, the learned Chief Justice, quizzed Mr. Ace Ankomah if the Ghana Bar Association has been served with the Statement of Case of the Attorney-General (A.G) which he responded in the negative.
The failure of service of the Statement of case of the A-G pooped the legal arguments party the Court was billed to be thrown into in a packed Supreme Court. To some apparent satisfaction on the face of the legal team for the Ghana Bar Association, Justice Sir Dennis Adjei disclosed to the legal team of the Ghana Bar Association that the arguments filed by the A-G are in support of the position of the Ghana Bar Association.

The legal representation led by Mr. Ace Ankomah opted to have a benefit of the arguments of the A-G to ably make legal submissions to the Court upon the hearing of arguments in support or otherwise of the writ and prayers brought by Mr. Dafeamekpor and his association of lawyers.
The Court thus adjourned for the effecting of service of the Statement of Case on the Ghana Bar Association and for a date to be conveyed by the registrar for hearing of legal arguments.
The legal arguments of the Ghana Bar Association effectively arguing that the expression Ghana Bar Association in the 1992 Constitution only refers to the Ghana Bar Association and no other association of lawyers can be read/downloaded here.
